The term e-commerce stands for electronic commerce which includes trade of products or services and the promotion of commercial transactions electronically, which is actually over the internet or other computer networks. Generally it consists of online transactions, supply chain management, internet marketing, Electronic Fund Transfer (ETF), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and automated data collection system through the World Wide Web. But the sense of ecommerce was not the same a few years ago. Then it meant sending commercial documents like purchase orders or invoices electronically. After the expansion and wider use of ATM (Automated Teller Machine) cards and online banking in the 1980s, ecommerce moved a way further.
