Facebook is a great way to promote your band on the internet. Facebook is the largest social networking site on the internet and practically everyone has a Facebook account nowadays. Using Facebook should be one of your key methods of promotion if you are a musician or in a band.
There are a number of options available on Facebook for you to use in order to promote your band. The three main options are a profile page, a fan page, and events.
Profile Page
You should create a profile for your band. Go through the same process that you would do if you were signing up for a new Facebook account for an individual, but use the account for your band. Enter your band name across the first name and last name boxes of the new user account. This way you can build up a list of friends for the band who will be able to see any updates you post relating to the band.
You should provide links on your profile page to your website and also to your Facebook fan page (we will discuss this next). Be proactive with your band Facebook profile. Participate in forum discussions and send out updates that your friends will find useful. Add new friends and share information as well as promote your band. If people find that you add value to discussions then people are more likely to want to be your Facebook friend and show an interest in your band compared to if you were constantly trying to sell something.
